My Neighbour Marisa. Oil on panel, 2026.

Marisa, a film-maker, was my studio neighbour in New England House in Brighton, where I worked for over 15 years. There was a very strong community in our building, which was shattered when the local council evicted all the tenants in 2025. In the run-up to this event, I started work on portraits of a few of my neighbours.

This painting will be exhibited in the Contemporary British Portrait Painters annual exhibition at the Department Store in Brixton, running June 6th-14th 2026. The portrait of Marisa was selected to feature on the exhibition poster and catalogue cover. My other submission to this show (third slide) is a portrait of my fellow artist James Cowland.
